The aim of this project is to provide bibliographic control for Chinese collectanea (cóngshū 叢書) held in German libraries. The project is hosted by the Institute of Chinese and Korean Studies, University of Tübingen, and the Institute for Sinology, University of Munich. Most of our work is funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG). The Bavarian State Library, Munich, partakes in this project by making available the holdings of her Oriental und East Asian Department.
From April 2003 to Mai 2005 a database of 31,147 titles in
91 collectanea was produced and compiled into the Verzeichnis chinesischer Collectanea in
deutschen Bibliotheken (德國圖書館所藏中文叢書目錄 Catalogue
of Chinese Collectanea in German libraries) which is presented
to the public at www.collectanea.uni-muenchen.de/download-eng.html.
About two thirds of the titles in the Verzeichnis are contained in neither of the major congshu bibliographies, the others being of particular scientific or educational value. One of the new features of this catalogue is the inclusion of the numbering (冊號) found on the cover of the book or elsewhere allowing the reader go straight from the analytic entry to the book on the shelf.
We would like to thank all persons and institution who have supported our work with their assistance or by making their catalogue data available, in particular Renate Stephan-Bahle, Bavarian State Library, Munich, David Helliwell, Bodleian Library, Oxford, Department of Oriental Books, und Maria Lau, Chinese University of Hong Kong Library, SAR Hong Kong. All errors and omissions remain our responsibility.
Work has been suspended for the time being, though there are plans to continue at a future date. More information about this project and the Verzeichnis is available in German at www.collectanea.uni-muenchen.de.
